Offered in a 6.2 mm housing only, exclusively made of glass and metal, the design draws attention to Cubot X16, simple but carefully done, giving the impression of a premium smartphone, more ambitious than its price.
Designed by a little known manufacturer, still available in online stores, Cubot X16 is aimed at those looking for a smartphone with a good quality to price ratio for everyday use.
Complementing the recipe for a good first impression, Cubot X16 comes in a sleek gold cardboard box, a good gift to put under the Christmas tree. Without too much waste, the manufacturer included with the mobile phone, an AC adapter and USB cable, a protective case made of transparent plastic and a filter to protect the screen from scratches.
Weighing 150 grams and carried on a magnesium alloy chassis, Cubot X16 gives the impression of a solid construction, no crackles and not flex when pressed, and the glass surfaces give a pleasant feeling when touched. The abundance of glass and metal surfaces also has drawbacks, the phone can easily slip from your hands and needs periodic cleaning to remove fingerprints and sweat stains.
Cubot X16’s 5.0˝ screen has a narrow frame, not wider than 3mm, so that the total width of the phone is 69.6 mm, still compact enough to be easily carried in your hand, only the 143.6 mm height can pose a problem to those with shorter fingers.
On the right side we find the Power button and Volume bar, all made of metal and placed at opposable thumb level. On the left we have the removable box that houses the SIM and microSD card. This allows the use of a combination of micro SIM cards + nano SIM or micro SIM + micro SD, but not all three together. If attaching a microSD card, it is automatically set as a priority use of storage space, leaving the 16GB internal memory free to install applications and games from Android Play. In the package headphones are not included, but the user has the freedom to use his own 3.5mm jack headset.

The 13MP camera offers decent quality pictures in most situations, and performance felt with Android 5.1 operating system leaves nothing to object, except maybe a gaming experience less smooth than on a high-end smartphone.
