Instagram is preparing to reveal a home for longer-form video, a YouTube competitor, its take on Snapchat Discover.
More sources reported that Instagram would offer a dedicated space featuring scripted shows, music videos and more. All of these will be in a vertically oriented, full-screen, high-def 4K resolution.
Instagram’s long-form video effort announcement is scheduled for June 20
Instagram has been meeting with famous social media stars and content publishers in order to find out how their video channels would be able to work within the app.
Instagram is also gathering launch partners for an announcement of the long-form video effort that’s scheduled for June 20.
The feature will be focused on the kind of videos that you can see on YouTube.
These range from 5 to 15 minutes in length and they’re shot with really nice cameras and lighting.
Average users will also be able to upload longer videos beyond the current 60-second limit.
Creators and publishers will be able to earn money off longer videos
Instagram plans to eventually allow creators and publishers earn cash off the longer videos even if it has not finalized yet the way in which accompanying ads would work.
It will not pay creators up-front for shows such as Facebook Watch. But the videos will each feature a swipe-up option to open a link.
The creators can use the link to drive traffic to their websites, e-commerce stores or event ticketing.
Thanks to Instagram’s 800 million-plus users, the video section could be a robust marketing tool beyond generating cash for creators directly.
It’s not clear yet how this new feature will be called or when it’s set to become available. It could be live in the Explore tab it could also get its own tab or even be launched in an entirely separate application. We’ll just have to wait and see.
