Microsoft in Hardware: Microsoft Mobiles – A Downward Spiral

Microsoft has been a company which has been one of the leading names in the world of technology for a very long time now.

The company has been coming out with innovations and updates to their offerings, and has managed to do extremely well when it comes to the markets of software technology. The company has been known to be an unstoppable juggernaut in that market.

Microsoft has especially been a major force in the world of Operating Systems. With the massive success that the Windows 10 has been declared, the company is indeed looking to take that momentum forward and ensure that more goodwill can be earned.

However, in times of rising competition, where everyone has been doing well in the hardware business, Microsoft is lagging out, and that has indeed been bothering the company a lot.

Microsoft Mobiles has been a division which has been one of the most ambitious projects by the company, but has failed miserably in the markets.

The company has tried their very best to ensure that their phones get popular in the markets, however that has just not been the case with Microsoft Mobiles, as the company has been losing out major market share as well as a lot of money over the mobile phones.

In 2014-15, the company bled out close to 8Billion USD, and had to let go of nearly 8000 employees later.

However, it was then that they launched the latest Lumia phones, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, as well as the low-budget Lumia 550.

The company still did not get any returns and as a result it was declared later last month that the company has lost out over 50% of their market shares in just one year.

However, the only way out for them is to work towards a ‘surface mobile’ as that has been a popular market rumor and the users are actually excited to try out a powerful mobile from Microsoft.

The Surface Phone, upon launch is likely to be dubbed similar to the Lumia 650, a “business” offering.

Microsoft Mobiles needs to innovate further if they wish to survive, or the time won’t be far from where Microsoft will have no way out but to shut the division down.

What, in your opinion should the company do to stay afloat in the markets? Comment below and let us know.
