We all know that Samsung Galaxy S8 is currently the hottest smartphone in the market. It features a sleek design, a great display and a ton of latest hardware and software to beat every single flagship out of its way to becoming the most powerful Android device. But, now it looks like this domination is not here to stay long. The OnePlus 5 is coming.

It’s been only two days since OnePlus confirmed that they would be globally launching their latest flagship OnePlus 5 on June 20. OnePlus 5, as we have seen in many leaked pictures, looks as beautiful as the iPhone 7 Plus. In fact, it is just the iPhone 7 Plus but with a OnePlus logo in the back. Many reliable sources say that the upcoming OnePlus handset will pack the same or even better hardware than Galaxy S8.

Will OnePlus 5 be able to give Samsung Galaxy S8 a run for its money? Let’s find out.

It is true that Galaxy S8 packs top-of-the-line specs, including the latest and powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of storage. While OnePlus 5 also sports the same processor, it is pumping up the RAM to as high as 8GB. Woah, that’s PC kind of RAM!

Based on reports, the forthcoming OnePlus handset will have two RAM variants: 6GB RAM plus 64GB storage and 8GB RAM plus 128GB storage. That means the base version of the Chinese smartphone is itself better than the Samsung flagship.

Samsung Galaxy S8 features a 12MP sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a wide f/1.7 aperture. It performs great even in low-light conditions, and is regarded as the best phone camera ever.

On the other hand, OnePlus just tweeted that its upcoming flagship phone is getting something that even the Galaxy S8 doesn’t have: a dual camera setup on the back. (Source)

While OnePlus isn’t a company known for bringing great cameras, it seems like the company is stepping up the game this time, by using a camera technology that will “make photos clearer”. The dual camera setup can be used for optical zoom, creating background blur, capturing more lighting and color detail.

OnePlus smartphones are known to throw in top-tier specifications at half the price of other flagships. The same scenario might as well repeat for the OnePlus 5. According to recent reports, the 6/64GB version of the handset will cost around $500, while the 8/128GB version will be priced around $590. ALSO READ: Price of OnePlus 5 in India

Samsung, on the other hand, charges around $730 for a fully-unlocked version of Galaxy S8. Well, that makes the OnePlus 5 two hundred dollars cheaper than the Samsung counterpart.

That being said, we think OnePlus is going to sell a pretty good number of OP5 units worldwide with those industry-best specifications and affordable prices. Samsung’s flagship could face some headwinds going forward due to the increasing competition from OnePlus.
