WhatsApp Reaches A Billion Users Landmark

WhatsApp has been a company which has been around for a relatively short time when you compare it with some of the other apps of recent times.

The company has been the leading name when it comes to the instant messaging apps, and has today sealed an even more dominating position as it has now officially been declared that WhatsApp houses over a billion users now.

The company had released a stat in September last year which told us that they are nearing a billion users, as they had crossed 900 million users. However, in a latest announcement, it has now been made official that the company has gained another hundred million users in the past 4 months, and has now reached a billion users!

The company has addressed this occasion in the WhatsApp Blog saying:

“WhatsApp began as a simple idea: ensuring that anyone could stay in touch with family and friends anywhere on the planet, without costs or gimmicks standing in the way.”

This is a major news for the users of the company, as WhatsApp, which has now been acquired by WhatsApp, has progressed in rapid leaps and bounds ever since, as they have updated to a web version, as well as introduced a voice-calling facility in their features after being taken over by Facebook.

WhatsApp is also expected to come out with video calling features later this year, based on leaked screenshots.

The company was also in the news recently as the WhatsApp messenger, which earlier used to charge users $0.99 per year for their services has decided to go free.

They will also be looking at B2C conversations happening between WhatsApp, and the messenger acting as a bridge between individuals and businesses. News around the WhatsApp-Facebook integration has also been around for a while now.

The WhatsApp Blog further goes ahead, and says: “even as we celebrate this achievement, our focus remains the same. Every day, our team continues to work to improve WhatsApp’s speed, reliability, security and simplicity.

We’re excited to see how far we’ve come. But now, it’s back to work – because we still have another 6 billion people to get on WhatsApp, and a long way left to go.”

In a statistical round-up, WhatsApp now has –

  • 1 Billion Monthly Active Users
  • 42 Billion Messages Sent Per Day
  • 6 Billion Photos Shared Every Day
  • 1 Billion Total Groups
  • 53 Languages
  • 250 Million Videos Shared Every Day
