Fortnite is the most popular game in the world right now with millions of players logging every single day to fight against other 99 random strangers in a Battle Royale deathmatch. The idea of Battle Royale was introduced by H1Z1 which is a survival game that has players fight against zombies and try to survive for as long as they can. H1Z1 also has a special mode called “King of the Hill” which is the inspiration behind Fortnite and PUBG.

Cultural Phenomenon

Even though lots of other online games such as World of Warcraft, CSGO, and PUBG have had millions of people playing on their servers, none of them have reached the status of being called a “cultural phenomenon”. This is exactly what Fortnite is and why the game’s popularity is getting bigger every day.

Fortnite Value Reaches $15 Billion

The great thing about Fortnite is that this game is free to play. This is why everyone who has a computer, smartphone or console can give Fortnite a try and get hooked on the addictive fun that the Battle Royale mode has to offer.

Despite being free to play, Epic Games which is the company in charge of Fortnite has reached $15 billion. This makes it one of the most successful titles in the history of video games. Nonetheless, Epic Games managed to hit the $15 billion milestone after receiving a $1.25 billion investment from a collective of seven eSports companies.

Here are the companies that currently hold shares in Epic Games: Disney, Tencent, Endeavor, Iconiq Capital, Smash Ventures, Vulcan Capital, Kleiner Perkins, aXiomatic, KKR and Lightspeed Venture.

“We’re excited to partner with the finest minds in the financial, sports, and entertainment communities. This reinforces Epic’s position of leadership in real-time 3D technology and accelerates our ability to improve the way people play, work, and interact with the world.” Said Tim Sweeney who is the CEO and founder of Epic Games.
