One of the things that separate Microsoft from Sony when it comes to console gaming is the fact that Microsoft is more “open-minded”. Microsoft is always the first one to introduce cross-play features for popular games while Sony doesn’t like doing this.

With that said, no one should be surprised that Microsoft is now getting ready to launch a major software development kit (SDK) that is going to allow game developers to integrate Xbox Live into games that run on Android, iOS, PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.

Microsoft is Launching Xbox Live on Other Platforms

Right from the start, we want to mention that a bunch of iOS and Android games already feature Xbox Live achievements. However, the achievements can be accessed only from Microsoft Studios which means that they are not available to everyone.

GDC 2019 Highlights

Microsoft is planning to host a GCD (global developer convention) and it has already revealed what are some of the topics which will be covered during the event, including Xbox Live.

“Xbox Live is one of the largest, most engaged gaming communities on the planet with decades of experience providing managed game services to developers that save you time and unlock all of the social and engagement features that players have,” said Microsoft.

“Now Xbox Live is about to get MUCH bigger. Xbox Live is expanding from 400M gaming devices and a reach to over 68M active players to over 2B devices with the release of our new cross-platform XDK,” added Microsoft.

Final Words

Nonetheless, what Xbox fans can take from this is that Microsoft is doing everything it can do to improve the user experience that Xbox Live offers. After third-party game developers start using the new SDK, Xbox fans will be able to share their achievements and communicate with their friends much easier than before.
