Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch last year and the wearable device became a bestselling product. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Samsung is going to forget about its older smartwatches anytime soon. The reason why we are saying this is because Samsung has announced today that Gear S3 and Gear Sport are going to receive a major software update that will introduce lots of new features.

New Software Update for Gear S3 and Gear Sport

Samsung announced that Gear S3 and Gear Sport users should keep their eyes peeled for a new software update that sports the “R760XXU2DSA1” firmware number. The update is being rolled out OTA (over the air) and it changes the operating system number of Gear S3 and Gear Sport to Tizen 4.0.0.2. We should note that the update is currently being rolled out only in the US and that it will get a global release during the upcoming days.

What’s New?

  • Samsung Health

The first thing that Gear S3 and Gear Sport users are going to notice after installing the latest software update is that Samsung Health now supports a variety of new workouts.

  • Samsung Health Widget Update

The widget for Samsung Health has also been updated to provide users with detailed information about their sleep stages.

  • Advanced Modes

Gear S3 and Gear Sport users should be happy to know that the new software update introduces two advanced modes. The modes are called Theater and Sleep. Both modes can be enabled from the Quick Panel to disable notifications and other features.

  • Messages

The new update makes it possible for Gear S3 and Gear Sport users to save messages as drafts. In addition, messages will now show MMS images and animated images in the cover view.

  • Music

One of the most annoying things about Gear S3 and Gear Sport was the fact that the music could only be changed through the smartphone. Fortunately, the new update lets Gear S3 and Gear Sport users change the music directly via the smartwatch.
