Apple Stops Signing iOS 12.4 – The Fight Against iOS Jailbreak Tools

Even though Apple’s operating systems are renowned for the premium user experience that they offer, there are many iPhone owners who don’t like the idea of being constrained and not being allowed to download any app that they want. Here is where jailbreaking methods come in. For the uninitiated, jailbreaking basically means to crack iOS so that users can download and install anything they want on their iPhones, including paid apps for free.

Apple Stops Signing iOS 12.4

Apple has been doing its best to disable jailbreaking tools and truth be told, Apple has been quite successful. It’s been significantly more difficult to jailbreak an iPhone with every new update that Apple has released.

Nonetheless, jailbreak fans should know that Apple has officially stopped signing iOS 12.4. This means that jailbreak fans can no longer downgrade their iPhone’s operating system from iOS 12.4.1 to iOS 12.4.

Patched Vulnerability

We want to mention that last week a jailbreak for iOS 12.4.1 was released online. The jailbreak relied on a vulnerability in Apple’s operating system and without wasting any time, the Cupertino based tech giant has already released a software update that takes care of this problem. The security vulnerability that was used in the jailbreak tool was reported by Google’s Project Zero which is a team that Apple leads.

The Fight Against Jailbreak Tools

Apple is now offering up to one million dollars as rewards to security researchers who can prove that they can control an iPhone without any user interaction. That’s not all, Apple is also offering big rewards to all security researchers who can find flaws in iOS. The reason why Apple is doing this is so that it can patch all vulnerabilities so that developers can no longer create jailbreak tools that permit the installation of Cydia.
