There are tens of premium messaging apps that you can pick from and now, a brand-new one has just arrived. Instagram has decided that the user experience its DMs (direct messages) offers is not good enough and it launched a new chatting app called Threads. The beta version of the app was in the testing phase for the last couple of months and now, it’s finally available to download on iOS and Android devices. With that said, let’s go ahead and check out everything there is to know about the new Threads app.
Introducing: Instagram Threads
The first thing that users are going to notice when they open Threads is that the viewfinder for the camera is making it super simple for users to snap a picture or record a video. Does this sound familiar? It looks like Instagram has taken a page out of Snapchat’s book when it comes to the design of the user interface.
Users can snap pictures or record videos in Threads and they can only share them with their Instagram Close Friends. The app will automatically highlight the people that the user chats with on a regular basis. We also want to note that Threads supports group messaging.
One of the most interesting features that Threads offers is the ability to set statuses. The Status will quickly indicate to the user’s Close Friends what they are doing such as working, studying, gaming and so on.
There are hundreds of pre-made statuses that users can pick from or instead, users can enable the Auto Status option which will automatically pick a status that represents what the user is doing in that moment.
Direct Messages is Not Being Removed
For any Instagram fans out there who are worried that DMs are going to be removed and replaced by Threads, they should be pleased to know that this is not going to happen. Instagram announced that Threads is just an “accessory app” designed to improve the chatting experience on Instagram.
