Developers have launched many great FPS games along the years but there aren’t that many which can compare to Quake II. This game launched back in 1997 renowned for being one of the first FPS titles to take over the gaming industry and this might come as a surprise, but there are still many people who are playing it to this day. If you are one of those people, then we have some great news to share with you today.

Quake II with RTX Technology

Nvidia has released today a special version of the legendary game that uses RTX technology. For those who are out of the loop, RTX is Nvidia’s real-time ray-tracing technology which makes games look amazing. Therefore, the enhanced version of Quake II with RTX looks just like a modern game.

Nvidia said that due to its low polycounts and simple world engine, Quake II is the perfect candidate to be brought back to life with this new technology.

GeForce 2060 RTX is Not the “Real” Minimum System Requirement

Even though Nvidia is the one to upgrade Quake II’s graphics, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Quake II fans need to use one of the company’s latest graphics processing units in order to run the RTX technology.

While the Steam store page might list Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2060 as the minimum requirement, this type of technology can also be run on different types of GPUs that are Pascal-based.

Final Words

Everyone who wants to give the game a try can download and install the demo version on their PCs for free. The first couple of levels are free but after that, interested Quake II fans will need to purchase the full version of the game in order to access all that Quake II has to offer.
