The Game Awards announced the official nominations for the best games to launch in 2018 and it should come as no surprise that Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War are on top of the list. The event where the winner will be announced is going to take place on December 6th, but we already know that the battle for the GOTY (game of the year) award is going to be fought between Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War.

Game of The Year

Getting the GOTY award is the biggest accomplishment that game studios can dream about and only the best games get a shot at this title. As we already mentioned, Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War have been both nominated for the title, but they were not the only ones. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Capcom’s Monster Hunter: World, Celeste (from Matt Makes Games) and Marvels’ Spider-Man have also been nominated for GOTY.

Long-Development Cycles

Even though Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War have a tough competition ahead of them, the GOTY award is going to be won by one of them. This is guaranteed since these games are so good that they set new standards for the entire RPG genre. Not just that, but they both required lots of time in development with Red Dead Redemption 2 staying in development for eight years and God of War for seven years.

Both games are spectacular and we hope that other game studios will take them as an example and realize that a delayed game is always better than a rushed one. Fans are looking for smooth experiences and immersive game worlds where they can relax after work or school and this is exactly what Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War have to offer.

Who Will Win?

Picking a winner between Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War is a difficult task, but Red Dead Redemption 2 might have the upper hand because it’s available on PS4 and Xbox One while God of War can only be played on PS4.
