Apple saw the amazing success that Amazon is having with the Echo Dot speakers that are powered by Alexa and it decided to launch the HomePod. Even though the HomePod is a great device, Amazon’s speakers are more powerful and it’s a challenge for the HomePod to even compete. Therefore, Apple decided to try and equip the HomePod with a bunch of exclusive features such as Apple Music in order to get customers interested in the device.
Alexa Will Feature Apple Music
People who have Apple Music accounts can’t access them from any other home speakers other than the one sold by Apple. Luckily, this is about to change because Amazon’s Alexa will receive access to Apple Music starting December 17th.
Amazon Speaks Out
“Customers will be able to ask Alexa to play their favorite songs, artists, and albums—or any of the playlists made by Apple Music’s editors from around the world, covering many activities and moods. Customers will also be able to ask Alexa to stream expert-made radio stations centered on popular genres like Hip-Hop, decades like the 80s, and even music from around the world, like K-Pop. Just ask Alexa to play Beats 1 to hear Apple Music’s global livestream including in-depth artist interviews— all completely ad-free,” said Amazon on its official blog.
Alexa Skill
Amazon also announced that Apple Music is going to be available as an Alexa Skill. This means that people who own Echo Dot speakers will be able to add Apple Music to the Alexa app and then sync their accounts. After this is done, users can start playing any song from their Apple Music library by using a command that will sound something like “Alexa, ask Apple Music to play….”
Final Words
Apple made the right decision by allowing Amazon’s Alexa to use Apple Music. There are many Apple Music users who have purchased albums and they can’t access them on the Echo Dot speaker and this just isn’t fair right now. Luckily, everything will change on December 17th.
