Borderlands 3 is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2019 and Gearbox Software announced that the game is going to launch during the upcoming months. Although, what Gearbox Software forgot to mention is that Borderlands 3 is going to be an Epic Store exclusive title for a period of three months. For those who aren’t familiar with the Epic Store, this is a game library that rivals Steam and it is developed by Epic Games, the Fortnite creator.

Epic Store Exclusivity

If there is one thing that game developers need to understand about PC gamers, then it is the fact that they don’t like having to open different game libraries in order to play their favorite games.

Gamers are already used to Steam and they already have hundreds of titles in that library. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that fans of the Borderlands franchise got angry when they heard about the Epic Games three months exclusivity deal.

Epic Games CEO Speaks Out

Tim Sweeney is the CEO of Epic Games and he decided to release a statement on Twitter in order to present what his position is on game exclusivity deals.

“Epic is open to continuing to sign funding/exclusivity deals with willing developers and publishers regardless of their previous plans or announcements around Steam,” said Tim Sweeny.

“This prompted further discussions at Epic, leading to the realization that these calls must be up to developers and publishers, and Epic wouldn’t tell them “no” on account of existing statements made about Steam,” added the Epic Games CEO.

Epic Store vs Valve

From the looks of it, Tim Sweeny made it loud and clear that his company’s goal is not to dethrone Steam. Epic Store is willing to sign deals with game developers but it will not go out of its way in order to cause problems for Steam.
