Google announced that it has developed a brand-new app called Neighborly. The app has started rolling out today in India and it comes free of charge. The Android parent said that the new app has been designed to make it easier for people to find out information about their surroundings such as where is the best place to eat or what is the best hotel around. The cool thing about Neighborly is that it gathers all its answers from users, thus providing users with reliable answers from their neighbors.

Google Launches Neighborly

The app is currently available for download in New Delhi and Bangalore. However, Google announced that Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad are the next Indian cities to get access to Neighborly during the upcoming weeks. On the downside of things, we don’t know if this app is ever going to make it out of India and reach US and European users.

Google Speaks Out

“We know that most of life happens within 1 kilometer from home or work and that many information needs are local. We’ve also found that when finding local information, people prefer to ask or discuss with another person – whether that’s a friend, family member, or neighbor” said Arnold Binas who is the engineer manager behind Neighborly.

The Testing Phase is Done

What’s interesting about Neighborly is that the testing phase for the app is already over. Google has tested Neighborly in Mumbai back in Mai and the app has now been downloaded for more than 1.6 million times. Therefore, Neighborly seems to be a useful app that people enjoy having on their smartphones.

Conclusion

The idea behind Neighborly is amazing because it lets people find genuine information when they search for things such as a cool restaurant to eat instead of having to pick from a bunch of ads that pop-up in the Google search bar. Let’s just hope that Google decides to give Neighborly a global release.
