WhatsApp is one of the world’s most popular chatting apps with more than one billion people using it every single day and this speaks volumes about cool features and premium user experience that the app has to offer. The plethora of features that WhatsApp offers is one of the primary reasons why the chatting app is so popular, but this is not what makes WhatsApp shine when compared to similar apps.

The reason why WhatsApp is so popular is because its free to use and it doesn’t feature any annoying ads. Unfortunately, it looks like this might end because WhatsApp is going to receive ads in the upcoming future.

WhatsApp Will Feature Ads

Even though WhatsApp has always been renowned for not giving in to advertisers, Chris Daniels who is the app’s Vice-President has announced that WhatsApp will start placing ads in the Status feature. For those who are unfamiliar with the Status feature, it works the same way Instagram famous Stories feature does.

When asked about why WhatsApp is going to start showing ads in the Status feature, Chris Daniels made the following statement: “Primary monetization mode for the company as well as an opportunity for business to reach people on WhatsApp”.

Millions of Dollars in Revenue

Truth be told, the fact that WhatsApp is going start showing ads to users is really annoying. However, we can be sure that this is not going to make the app lose its popularity since the features that WhatsApp offers are of top-notch quality and other chatting apps pale in comparison with it.

Another important thing that we need to talk about is the amount of money that WhatsApp will start generating once ads go live. Considering that WhatsApp has a monthly active user base of more than 1.5 billion people, we think it’s safe to say that WhatsApp will generate millions of dollars each month via ads.
